Contains a combination of words, which will be used in the search of information

The words, related to the search of information are filled in the box. They could get connected to the logical operators AND and OR.

In order to find information about books on the subject Physics and  Physical Chemistry::

  1. Choose Books from the “Catalogue”-box;
  2. Choose All words of the search indication;
  3. Fill in “Physics” AND “Physical Chemistry” in the box “Searched text”;
  4. Press the button “Search”.
Commands and command buttons

Search

Choosing the button Search operates the search in the conditions and parameters given.

Search through a DICTIONARY

Choosing “Search” through a DICTIONARY opens a help screen that makes the search more precise, by making a list of the terms searched and the number of their availability in the library book-stock.

Click Here, in order to have some more information about search through a DICTIONARY.

Add AND

Choosing the AND adds AND - a logical AND in the box of Searched text.

Add OR

Choosing Add OR adds OR - logical OR in the box of Searched text.

DELETE

Choosing DELETE empties the box Searched text.

Search indication A criterion of searching information is chosen in the box

All words

Choosing All words means that a search for information concerning every single word from the bibliography description is to be done.  The words are included in the boxes for description of library documents and are indicated by library employees, that they would be a part of the dictionary (the classification) "All words".

From the dropdown menu Parameters of search the indication All words has been chosen as a default one.

In order to find some information about books, related to Second World War:

  1. Choose Books from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose All words from the Indication of search;
  3. Fill in Second AND world AND war in the box Searched text;
  4. Press the button Search.

Titles

Choosing Titles means that some information will be searched according to the title of library documents.


To find some information about the books whose titles start with the word cooking:

  1. Choose Books from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Titles from the Indication of search;
  3. Fill in cooking in the box Searched text;
  4. Press the button Search.

Authors

Choosing Authors means that information will be searched according to the authors of library documents.

Important: authors’ names are registered in an inverted manner: the surname first, followed by the first name, and the father’s name at the end.


To find some information about the books written by Ivan Vazov:

  1. Choose Books in the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Authors from the Indication of search;
  3. Press Vazov, Ivan in the box Searched text;
  4. Press the button Search.

Subject rubrics

Choosing the sectionSubject rubrics means that information will be searched according to the subject rubric.

Subject rubrics display the documents’ contents. They are very helpful in defining the major topic, as well as the point of view the problem is treated by is established.

To find information about the books subjected by Mathematics - guides:

  1. Choose Books in the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Subject rubrics from the Indication of search;
  3. Fill in Mathematics - guides in the box Searced text;
  4. Press the button Search.

Key words

Choosing Key words means that some information about key words is to be searched.

Key words are separate words or combinations of words that display the contents in library documents.

In order to find some information about the books, characterized by the key words history and Bulgaria:

  1. Choose Books from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Key words from the Indication of search;
  3. Fill in history AND Bulgaria in the box Searched text;
  4. Press the button Search.

UDC indices

The choice of UDC indices means that some information by a concrete index (code) from the UDC is going to be searched.

UDC (Universal Decimal Classification) - a library classification system

To find information about books, russian literature, with a UDC index 882:

  1. Choose Books in the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose UDC indices from Indication of search;
  3. Fill in 882 in the box Searched text;
  4. Press the button Search.

UDC and determinant

Choosing UDC and determinant means that what is going to be searched is some information by an index (code) from UDC with a corresponding determinant.

In UDC determinants are added to basic indices, by detailing them and specifying their contents and shape.

In order to find some information about books - literary criticism about Russian authors, with a UDC-index 882, a special determinant .09 and a common determinant (092):

  1. Choose Books from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose UDC indices from Indication of search;
  3. Fill in 882.09(092) in the box Searched text;
  4. Press the button Search.

Subject rubrics

Choosing Subject rubrics means that some information is going to be searched.

A subject rubric is a code that unites library documents by a definite actual subject or a specific direction for the library.

In order to find information about articles, related to the card–index Regional Studies:

  1. Choose Articles from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Subject rubrics from Indication of search;
  3. Fill in card-index Regional Studies in the box Searched text;
  4. Press the button Search.

For him (for her)

Choosing For him(For her) means that the search-information is going to be about a concrete person.

In order to find some information about books that were written about Vasil Levski:

  1. Choose Books in the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose For him (for her) from Indication of search;
  3. Fill in Levski, Vasil in the box Searced text;
  4. Íàòèñíåòå áóòîí Òúðñè.

Geographical terms

Choosing Geographical terms means that the information searched is for library documents about a concrete geographical concept.

In order to find information about articles, in which is quoted the town Elena :

  1. Choose Articles from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Geographical terms from the Indication of search;
  3. Fill in Elena in the box Searched text;
  4. Press the button Search.

ISBN

Choosing ISBN means that information about library documents through the international standard book number.

ISBN - International Standard Book Number - conformable unique number to the international standards that identifies the book in a synonymous manner.

In order to find some information about one of the Bulgarian versions of the book "The Da Vinci Code", through its ISBN 954-585-433-2:

  1. Choose Books from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose ISBN from the Indication of search;
  3. Fill in 954-585-433-2 in the box Searched text;
  4. Press the buttonSearch.

Publishing Houses

Choosing Publishing Houses means that some information about library documents, published by a definite publishing house, is to be searched.

In order to find information about the books, published by Publishing House Bard:

  1. Choose Books from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Publishing Houses from the Indication of search;
  3. Fill in Bard in the box Searched text;
  4. Press the button Search.

Collective authors

Choosing Collective authors means that what is to be searched is some information about a collective institution.

Examples for collective authors: the Government, the Parliament, Scientific Conference, and some other similar persons.

If you need to find information about books, the authors of which is Bulgaria, Ministry of Education:

  1. Choose Books from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Collective authors from the Indication of search;
  3. Fill in Bulgaria. Ministry of Education in the box Searched text;
  4. Press the button Search.
Catalogue The catalogue where the information is searched, is chosen in the box

Books,
   Periodicals,
   Articles,
   Notes,
   CD, cassettes,
   Dissertations,
   Pieces of Bibliography

Choosing Books from the box Catalogue means that information about books is to be searched. Choosing Periodicals from the box Catalogue means that information about periodicals is to be searched.

Library catalogues, listed on the left, have been differentiated according to the specific library documents.

In order to find some information about books by an author called Ivan Ivanov and later articles by the same author:

  1. Choose Books from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Authors from the Indication of search;
  3. Fill in Ivanov, Ivan in the box Searched text;
  4. Press the button Search;
  5. Choose Articles from the box Catalogue;
  6. Choose Authors from the Indication of search;
  7. Fill in Ivanov, Ivan in the box Searched text;
  8. Press the button Search.
Disguising search Activating the box lets you search information about incomplete coincidence

Disguising search

Activating the Disguising search means that the search is to be done in an incomplete coincidence.

If it is an active type of Disguising search and a search related to Authors of books is done, the author being Ivanov, S., in the results list the following authors are to be seen Ivanov, S., Ivanov, Sava, Ivanov, Simeon, Ivanov, Stanko, Ivanov, St., Ivanov, Stefan.

Excluding the Disguising search means that the search is to be according to a full coincidence.

If is not active Disguising search and a search in Authors of books is done, the author being Petrov, Petar, in the results list only books of author’s responsibility Petrov, Petar.

When is off the Disguising search a simultaneous search with comlete and incomplete coincidence could be done. In that particular case, when a search is done in the listAuthors, if in the box Searched text is filled in Ivanov, C.% OR Petrov, Petar, the results would be a union of the previous two inquiries.

The symbol % is used to display disguise.

In order to find information about books, the author’s name being written like Vazov, Iv. Minchov:

  1. Choose Books from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Authors from the Indication of search;
  3. Remove the tick in the Disguising search;
  4. Fill in Vazov, Iv. Minchov in the box Searched text;
  5. Press the button Search;

In order to find information about books authored by Vazov:

  1. Choose Books from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Authors from the Indication of search;
  3. Put a tick in Disguising search;
  4. Fill in Vazov in the Searched text;
  5. Press the button Search

 

Sorting out according to A criterium of order of results is chosen from the search

Ordinal word↑

In displaying the results, on e of the five listed items on the left is possible.

The arrow that points upwards means that the sorting is done in a rising order.

The arrow that points downwards means that the sorting is done in a falling order.

In order to make a reference about articles, referred to the card-index Regional studies you arrange it according to:

1. Year of registration (falling order);
2. Ordinal word (rising order);
3. Title (rising order):

  1. Choose Articles from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Topical rubrics from the Indication of search;
  3. Fill in Card index Regional Studies in the box Searched text;

The results are to be listed in the format List.

In order to get a reference in the form of a Short bibliography description of books, in the descriptions of which is included the word Bible:

  1. Choose Books from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose All words from the Indication of search;
  3. Choose Short bibliography description in the Type of reference;
  4. Fill in Bible in the box Searched text;
  5. Press the buttonSearch.

Short bibliography description

Results are to be displayed in the format Short bibliography description.

Full bibliography description

Results are to be displayed in the format Full bibliography description.

Records per page This field selects how many records to display per page

Date of registration The box gets activated to enter a cover of registration dates

Choosing Date of registration gives the right in the box From to enter the start date registration of library materials, and in the box To - the final date.

Date of registration Date of resgistration is an additional (secondary) filter, which is used in additional cancelling of library documents by their date of registration.

In order to find information about articles, related to Vasil Levski, which have been registered in the databse for the period from 01.01.2008 to 31.03.2008:

  1. Choose Articles from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose For him (for her) in the Indication of search;
  3. Fill in Levski, Vasil in the box Searched text;
  4. Activate the box Date of registration;
  5. Fill in 01.01.2008 in the box From;
  6. Fill in 31.03.2008 in the box To;
  7. Press the button Search.
Date of issue The box gets activated so that a range of dates issue could be done

By choosing a Date of issue allows in the box From start of registering library materials is fixed, and in the box To - the final date.

Date of issue is an additional (secondary) filter that is used dor an additional cancelling of library documents according to their date of issue.

In order to find information about articles, related to Vassil Levski, published between 01.01.2008 - 31.03.2008:

  1. Choose Articles from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose For him (for her) in the Indication of search;
  3. Fill in Levski, Vasil in the box Searched text;
  4. Activate the box Date of issue ;
  5. Fill in 01.01.2008 in the box From;
  6. Fill in 31.03.2008 in the box To;
  7. Press the button Search.
Additional commands

New Search

Choosing New Search opens the main search window.

Libraries & Requests

Choosing Libraries & Requests opens a special screen that lets libraries to exchange records, scanned images and requests for an interlibrary loan.

ATTENTION: The use and offers of these services are done by the library’s employees only.

AB catalogues

Chosing AB catalogues opens a new window, where there are some references in addition to the displayed catalogues on the Internet of some libraries, working with the Software Automatized Library (AB).

Information

Chosing Information opens a window that gives some additional information concerning the number of library documents in the catalogue, the number of authors, the number of subject rubrics etc.

Help

Chosing Help displays the current screen .

Library

Chosing Library opens a new window, with a reference to the library’s web page (if it is available) .

Delete

Chosing Delete clear the box Searched text.

Search through a DICTIONARY It opens a secondary window so that it could help and make the search more precise. Commands and the command buttons, used in the secondary window, are explained below.

 

Choosing Search through a DICTIONARY opens an additional window for help and precision of the search. In the additional window the words by which library documents are to be searched.

As a result of the search in the dictionary the search terms according to the chosen indication and the number of their availability in the system.

By clicking à corresponding word of the results registered, it gets transferred in the box Searched text on the main search screen.

In order to have a list of all the subject rubrics, beginning with bio:

  1. Choose Subject rubrics in the Indication of search;
  2. Choose Search by a Dictionary (a secondary window opens);
  3. Insert bio in the box Subject rubrics in the secondary window;
  4. Press the button List (appears a list of subject rubrics, beginning with bio, as well as the number of library documents in each of them);

In order to find information about books, the contents of which is shown by the key words physics è chemistry, by using Search through a DICTIONARY :

  1. Choose Books from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Key words from the Indication of search;
  3. Choose Search through a DICTIONARY (a secondary window appears);
  4. Insert physics in the box Key words in the secondary window;
  5. Press the button List (appears a list of Key words, beginning with physics, as well as the number of library deocuments in each of them);
  6. Click on physics, in the list made /the key word physics moves to the box Searched text from the main search screen);
  7. Choose Add(AND) from the secondary window (it adds AND in the box Searched text from the main search screen)
  8. Insert chemistry in the box Key words in the secondary window;
  9. Press the button List (appears a list of key words, beginning with chemistry, as well as the number of library documents in each of them);
  10. Click on chemistry, in the list made /the key word chemistry is moved to the box Searched text on the main search screen);
  11. Close the secondary window of the dictionary;
  12. Press the button Search.

Searched text

The box’s name Searched text is conditional. Its real name could be - All words, Titles, Authors etc., namely, each of the permissible Indication of search.

The search-terms for search in the dictionary are filled in the box.

List

It performs the search in the dictionary in the terms of search that are wanted.

Add AND

Adds AND - logical AND in the box Searched text in the main search-window.

Add OR

Adds OR - logical OR in the box Searched text in the main search-window.

DELETE

Deletes the box Searched text in the main search-window.

Additional search-options by disguise

Search by a random word in a box, in independent location

Surrounding a definite word by a % (per cent) makes possible its search in the whole box, no matter its location.

To find information about books in the titles of which is met the name Leonardo:

  1. Choose Books from the box Catalogue;
  2. Choose Title from the Indication of search;
  3. Fill in %Leonardo% in the box Searched text;
  4. Press the button Search.

Search by disguising a definite position in a word

The exchange of a definite letter in a word by a _ (underscore) makes the disguise search possible.

In the disguised search of the word ÷à_êà, the result would include the words ÷àâêà, ÷àéêà, ÷àøêà.

A result screen

The results of the search are displayed in the format chosen, called List, Short bibliography description or Full bibliography description.

Additional information is also displayed on the screen: the number of the files found, what is the book-stock materials were searched, the search-indications, the chosen sorting and others

By command Print results could be printed on a printer.

Libraries that participate in the files-, scanned images- and interlibrary loan-exchange, through AB on the results screen there is an additional section. "LIBRARY MATERIALS REQUESTS". Its use is done by the library employees only.
